Secrets of Longevity

Secrets of Longevity

In India the average age of a person is 68 years. But we often see people living in 80s and 90s. The average goes down when children also die at birth and young people also die because of accidents, diseases. Chronic diseases like high BP, Diabetes, Heart disease and Cancer often bring down the average as they cause early deaths. Those who live longer they usually keep themselves away from these diseases, control the diseases and have a healthy lifestyle to stop ageing.
Longevity would not only be the count of life in years but also they should be active, youthful and energetic. They should not be in the bed or in the hospital. The average life expectancy in Japan is 16 years more than us in India. Many developed countries like Switzerland, Ice land, Singapore, Honk Kong, Sweden where the lifespan is much longer than us.
It is generally agreed those who live longer usually say that my father, parents also lived a long life. It is believed that 30% of Longevity is due to Genetics and rest is contributed by lifestyle of the individuals. Very recent research, which also received a Nobel Prize in Medicine was the presence of Telomere in the ends of our DNA strand – which also determines our age. It has now been shown that healthy lifestyle can increase the length of these Telomeres and thus lifespan. This trait can also be passed to the next generation. Dr. Dean Ornish is also connected with this research carried out in California.
