Methi or Fenugreek Seeds in Diabetes & in high Cholesterol
Fenugreek seeds are hard yellowish brown seeds. It is used in many curry recipes and in certain culinary dishes, especially for diabetes.
The seeds of fenugreek contain certain elements that slow down the speed of movement of food by virtue of its fibers. This can show the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, which then keeps the level of blood sugar low. 4-hydroxyisoleucine – the amino acid present in fenugreek seeds can stimulate the manufacture of insulin to regulate blood sugar when blood sugar level spikes.
The fenugreek diet significantly reduced fasting blood sugar and improved the glucose tolerance test.
While both the seeds and leaves are used to flavor food, the seeds are especially very beneficial to health. Fenugreek seeds have a hypocholesterolemic effect because it increases excretion of bile acids and neutral steroids. This leads to depletion of cholesterol stores in the liver.
Intake of fenugreek seeds results in the reduction in serum total cholesterol, LDL & VLDL cholesterol & TG level.
